In this third edition of “Nutrition in Clinical Dentistry,” we have continued the format of the previous editions of “Nutrition in Clinical Dentistry” and “Nutrition in Preventive Dentistry: Science and Practice.” Essentially, we have covered (1) relevant advances in the science of food and nutrition and (2) the application of this knowledge to nutrition counseling of patients who want to prevent or control dental-oral problems such as dental caries, dental erosions, stomatitis, glossitis, periodontal disease, and other nutrition-related oral health problems. The procedures used in nutrition counseling evolved from experience gained in private dental practice and from feedback from predoctoral students in the Preventive Dentistry Counseling Clinic at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.
